Young bull (A) vs cow (D) premium over time
The gap between young bull (A) and cow (D) carcass prices, week by week - the taller the bar, the larger the premium paid for the higher-value category.
Each bar is the gap for one published period, drawn only where ŽŪDC published both series. Periods ŽŪDC did not publish have no bar, so neighbouring bars are not always consecutive periods. Hover a bar for its period and exact value; the latest period is the darker bar.
How to read this. The SEUROP category describes the type of animal: A - young bulls, B - bulls, D - cows, E - heifers. The Lithuanian export carries no C (steer) category. Categories such as young bulls usually yield more valuable carcasses and command a higher price; conformation and fat class within a category move the individual price further.
Source and method
Cattle prices are ŽŪDC's weekly average purchase prices per 100 kg of carcass weight by SEUROP category, shown without adjustment. Published by the State Enterprise Agricultural Data Centre (ŽŪDC) on the Lithuanian open data portal get.data.gov.lt; FERMOS.LT imports the figures automatically and shows them unchanged. These are reported average farm-gate purchase prices paid to producers, not exchange quotes (such as Euronext/MATIF futures) and not a buyer's offer today; an individual deal may differ by quality, volume and contract terms.
