Extra vs Class IV premium over time
The gap between the top (Extra) and bottom (Class IV) wheat class prices in the months ŽŪDC published - the taller the bar, the more it paid to grow milling-quality wheat.
Each bar is the gap for one published period, drawn only where ŽŪDC published both series. Periods ŽŪDC did not publish have no bar, so neighbouring bars are not always consecutive periods. Hover a bar for its period and exact value; the latest period is the darker bar.
How to read this. Higher classes (Extra, I, II) meet milling standards - higher protein and falling number - and are bought by mills for food use. Lower classes (III, IV) mostly go to feed. The table shows ŽŪDC's published average class prices, without adjustment.
Source and method
Wheat prices are ŽŪDC's monthly average purchase prices by quality class in euro per tonne. Published by the State Enterprise Agricultural Data Centre (ŽŪDC) on the Lithuanian open data portal get.data.gov.lt; FERMOS.LT imports the figures automatically and shows them unchanged. These are reported average farm-gate purchase prices paid to producers, not exchange quotes (such as Euronext/MATIF futures) and not a buyer's offer today; an individual deal may differ by quality, volume and contract terms.
